Ingredients

Scale

Meat & Protein

  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 6 slices bacon
  • 1 medium onion, diced
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced

Cheese & Dairy

  • 1 cup grated Parmesan cheese, divided
  • 2 cups shredded cheddar cheese
  • 2 tbsp butter
  • 2 tbsp all-purpose flour
  • 2 cups milk or cream

Pasta & Sauce

  • 9 lasagna noodles
  • 2 cups tomato sauce

Seasoning & Spices

  • Salt, to taste
  • Black pepper, to taste
  • 1 tsp Italian seasoning

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Bacon and Beef: Cook the bacon in a large pan over medium heat until crispy. Remove, crumble, and set aside, reserving some bacon fat in the pan. In the same pan, add diced onions and minced garlic, sautéing until fragrant. Add ground beef and cook until browned and fully cooked. Season with salt, pepper, and Italian seasoning. Remove from heat.
  2. Make the Cheese Sauce: In a saucepan, melt butter over medium heat. Whisk in flour to create a roux and cook for about 1-2 minutes without browning. Gradually add milk or cream, whisking constantly until the sauce thickens. Remove from heat and stir in Parmesan and cheddar cheese until smooth and creamy.
  3. Cook the Lasagna Noodles: Boil lasagna noodles according to package instructions until al dente. Drain and lay noodles flat on a sheet to prevent sticking.
  4. Assemble the Lasagna: Spread a layer of tomato sauce at the bottom of a baking dish. Layer noodles over the sauce, then spread half of the beef mixture, crumbled bacon, and cheese sauce evenly. Repeat layering with noodles, the remaining beef and bacon, and more cheese sauce. Finish with a top layer of noodles, tomato sauce, and a generous sprinkle of Parmesan cheese.
  5. Bake to Perfection: Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C). Cover the dish with foil and bake for 30 minutes. Remove foil and bake an additional 10 minutes to brown the cheese and form a crust. Let the lasagna rest for 10 minutes before serving.

Notes

  • Cook bacon first to render fat, and use some to cook the beef for extra flavor.
  • Do not overcook noodles; slightly undercook them for better texture after baking.
  • Use fresh minced garlic for the best flavor.
  • Spread layers evenly for balanced taste and texture.
  • Let lasagna rest after baking to set and simplify slicing.
