This easy-to-make recipe is perfect for any dinner occasion, offering a satisfying and elegant meal that brings the warmth of Turkish cuisine straight to your table.

Ingredients

Scale

Chicken and Seasoning

  • 4 boneless, skinless chicken breasts
  • Salt, to taste
  • Black pepper, to taste
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil

Sauce Ingredients

  • 3 garlic cloves, minced
  • 1 medium onion, finely chopped
  • 1 tablespoon all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream
  • 1/2 cup plain yogurt
  • 1 teaspoon dried mint
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice

Garnish

  • 2 tablespoons fresh parsley, chopped

Instructions

  1. Prepare the chicken: Season the chicken breasts generously with salt and pepper. Heat the olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Cook the chicken breasts until they are golden brown on both sides and cooked through, about 5-7 minutes per side depending on thickness. Remove the chicken from the skillet and set aside.
  2. Sauté the aromatics: In the same skillet, add the chopped onions and minced garlic. Sauté for about 3-4 minutes until softened and fragrant, scraping up any browned bits left from the chicken to enhance flavor.
  3. Create the creamy sauce base: Sprinkle the all-purpose flour over the onions and garlic, stirring constantly to cook out the raw flour taste. Slowly whisk in the milk and cream in small additions to prevent lumps, and continue stirring until the sauce thickens and becomes smooth.
  4. Add yogurt and herbs: Remove the skillet from heat to lower the temperature slightly. Whisk in the yogurt and dried mint thoroughly, taking care not to let the sauce boil to prevent curdling.
  5. Combine chicken and sauce: Return the cooked chicken breasts to the skillet. Spoon the sauce evenly over the chicken and allow to gently simmer for about 5 minutes to warm the chicken through and meld the flavors.
  6. Finish with fresh touches: Just before serving, stir in a splash of fresh lemon juice and sprinkle the chopped fresh parsley over the dish to brighten and freshen the rich sauce.

Notes

  • Let chicken sit at room temperature for 15 minutes before cooking to ensure even cooking and juiciness.
  • Slowly add milk and cream while whisking constantly to maintain a smooth, lump-free sauce.
  • After adding yogurt, avoid boiling the sauce to prevent curdling and retain creaminess.
  • Use fresh minced garlic for a stronger, more vibrant flavor compared to pre-minced garlic.
  • Allow the cooked chicken to rest in the sauce off heat for a few minutes to deepen the flavor absorption.
