Description

Tiramisu Madeleines combine the rich flavors of classic tiramisu—espresso, mascarpone, and cocoa—with the delicate, buttery texture of French madeleines. This elegant yet easy-to-make dessert offers a perfect coffee kick and a light, tender crumb, ideal for breakfasts, desserts, or party treats. Infused with espresso and topped with creamy mascarpone, these little shell-shaped cakes deliver a sophisticated coffee-flavored delight in every bite.

Ingredients

Scale

Dry Ingredients

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour (or gluten-free flour blend/almond flour for gluten-free version)
  • 1 tsp baking powder

Wet Ingredients

  • 3 large eggs
  • 2/3 cup sugar
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted and cooled
  • 1/4 cup espresso or strong brewed coffee
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract

Topping

  • 1/2 cup mascarpone cheese
  • 12 tbsp sugar (to taste)
  • 1 tbsp espresso or coffee liqueur (optional)
  • Cocoa powder, for dusting

Instructions

  1. Prepare Your Ingredients: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) and grease your madeleine pan thoroughly. Melt the butter and let it cool to room temperature. Brew fresh espresso or strong coffee for the best flavor.
  2. Mix Dry Ingredients: Sift together the all-purpose flour (or gluten-free alternative) and baking powder into a bowl to ensure no lumps and a light texture.
  3. Whisk Eggs and Sugar: In a separate large bowl, vigorously whisk the eggs and sugar until pale, fluffy, and doubled in volume, aerating the mixture for lightness.
  4. Combine and Incorporate Flavors: Gently fold the dry ingredients into the whipped egg mixture without deflating it. Then carefully fold in the melted butter, espresso, and vanilla extract until smooth, avoiding overmixing.
  5. Fill the Madeleine Pan: Using a spoon or piping bag, fill each cavity of the greased madeleine pan about 3/4 full to allow space for rising.
  6. Bake to Perfection: Bake for 10–12 minutes until edges are golden brown and centers spring back when lightly pressed, forming the classic madeleine hump.
  7. Prepare the Mascarpone Topping: While madeleines cool slightly, whip mascarpone cheese with sugar and a splash of espresso or coffee liqueur until smooth and creamy.
  8. Assemble and Dust: Once the madeleines are completely cool, spread or pipe the mascarpone topping onto each. Finish by dusting generously with cocoa powder.

Notes

  • Use freshly brewed espresso or strong coffee for the best and most vibrant coffee flavor.
  • Resting the batter in the fridge for 30 minutes can enhance flavor and texture.
  • Grease the pan well with butter or non-stick spray to ensure easy release of madeleines.
  • Keep a close eye while baking; overbaking causes dryness.
  • Allow madeleines to cool completely before adding the mascarpone topping to prevent melting.
